Inside a mindfully redesigned 5-room residence with space and function

In this week’s episode, explore a thoughtfully redesigned 5-room HDB, perfect for modern living. Situated within a serene environment and conveniently close to amenities, this home is located in Bishan, the northernmost portion of the Central Region of Singapore. This exceptional home, designed by Eugene, Fiona and the expert team at i.Poise Design, has been masterfully transformed from a standard 3-bedroom 5-room HDB layout into a spacious 5-bedroom residence. The redesigned layout enhances both space and functionality, perfectly catering to the needs of a large family. By maximizing every inch, this home truly reaches its full potential. The architectural reconfiguration also includes the creation of multiple inviting living areas, showcasing the team's innovative approach to maximizing space and functionality. Our 3 favorite features include:
- The communal space
- The wet & dry kitchen
- The powder room
Thoughtfulness runs in our designs to ensure layouts suit the lifestyle of our clients, not the other way around. For large families, living together can present hurdles. Our designs are crafted to overcome these challenges, ensuring harmony without adding complexity.

By structurally altering the unit, we created a foyer that connects seamlessly to the communal area, enhancing the homeowners' privacy while mindfully addressing the need for an interactive space. The design includes an island perfect for hosting, a cozy sitting area for unwinding (or vocalizing) , and plenty of open space to enjoy.

Adjacent to the dining area are the dry and wet kitchens, designed in warm woody tones complemented by sleek black appliances. The top and bottom cabinets offer ample storage, but the standout feature is the dry pantry with a pocket door, minimizing visual clutter. This clever layout was achieved by sealing and relocating the common toilet door, allowing for a more seamless and functional space.

This brings us to the next point, the powder room. With the relocation of the toilet entrance, we considered how families use the shower during the morning rush. By segmenting the shower and powder areas, we enabled simultaneous usage — no more sibling squabbles over who gets to shower first!
