Floor area: 1,800sqft Reno cost: $150,000A couple with three young kids enlisted the help of Design Zage (https://designzage.com) to transform this 1,800-square-foot Jumbo flat in Yishun into a bright and cheery family home – one purpose-built to suit their needs.
The designer tore down most of the non-structural walls to re-orientate the Jumbo unit, and turned it from a five-room flat with an enclosed kitchen into a four-room flat with an open-concept cooking/entertaining space.
As part of the massive transformation, the original master bedroom in this Jumbo flat was made into a shared kid’s room for the couple’s three boys.
There are moveable panels to hide the TV when not in use. And since the family reads a lot, the designer has created a modular bookcase with adjustable shelves. When the panels are moved, the coloured backing also changes.
The master bedroom has an enlarged, ‘open-concept’ bathroom that’s separated from the sleeping area by full-height glass panels.
The kid’s bathroom has also been enlarged to make it more functional and suitable for use by the children. All three bathrooms in the unit feature a different aesthetic, making each distinctive, and lending a touch of fun to this Yishun Jumbo home!
