In Amsterdam’s eastern harbour, Koen Fraijman and Fadime Gökkaya’s bright 45sqm/484sqft loft apartment is full of character and clever DIY solutions. What started as a simple plan to add a dishwasher quickly became a full DIY renovation—transforming the compact space into a creative hub for everyday living. A repurposed IKEA kitchen features smart drawer layouts and a long alphabetised spice rack tucked into the beams, while a rail-mounted TV in the living room slides out from behind the sofa. Upstairs, a sunlit mezzanine features a workspace and multipurpose bed frame with a cleverly integrated laundry hatch and drying rack. Outside, the couple built their own floating deck for gardening, swimming, and enjoying the view. Full of heart, humour, and hands-on design, this tiny home is a joyful expression of how the smallest spaces can inspire big ideas.
