The Land Betterment Charge, in one minute. With effect from 1 August 2022, the Land Betterment Charge replaced Differential Premium, Development Charge and Temporary Development Levy. It is a tax on the increase in value of land arising from a chargeable consent, such as planning permission, for development. After a planning application or plan lodgment to URA, SLA issues a Liability Order, and payment is due within 1 month of the order. The initial rate is generally 70% of the increase in land value, and 100% on an exceptional basis. Source: SLA, Land Betterment Charge page, updated 15 Sep 2026; URA circular DC22-08, 5 Jul 2022.
