This four-bedder apartment at Clover by the Park in Bishan has a floor area of 1,765 square feet and is suitably spacious by Singaporean standards, but Wynn Neo of interior design studio I.D.I.D (https://idid.sg/), has redesigned it in a creative way to further enhance its features and the way its responds to the needs and lifestyle of a couple with a young son.

The clients had chosen this apartment in Bishan for its proximity to good primary schools and their plan was to stay here for the next six to eight years. They wanted a design that was different from other units in the development, and that would appeal to buyers with families when it came time to sell.

The interiors are contemporary and exude modern luxury, and the neutral colours and timeless designs give the home a sense of warmth and quiet sophistication.

Starting at the open and spacious foyer, the designer has built in a revolving shoe cabinet that allows the family reach for their shoes easily and to store them in a most efficient way.

Most such apartments do not come with a storeroom, but the designer has managed to turn an odd corner in this unit into one, and build lots of other seamless storage solutions around the home to meet the family’s practical needs and keep the place neat.

The previously enclosed kitchen has been opened up and from the vantage point of the newly created dry kitchen, one has an unblocked view of the dining and living area and the balcony beyond. It also improves wind flow and making the home ideal for entertaining.

Notably, the wet kitchen has been brought out into the spacious sheltered balcony next to the original kitchen, so the family can have the unique experience of cooking outdoors. An L-shaped telescopic door easily encloses this cookspace when needed, and gives more privacy to the helper’s living space, which has been created out of the utility room and water closet next to it.

All the rooms in this Bishan apartment have curved bay windows and beams overhead, and the designer has found great ways to utilise them. The one in the study has become a reading nook, the one in the kid’s room accommodates the platform bed, and the one in the master bedroom incorporates a wardrobe to store the couple’s winter clothes.

The kid’s room has been reduced slightly to accommodate a larger wardrobe in the master suite, but it still feels comfortable and spacious with an integrated desk, storage and bed setup that makes efficient use of space.

The master suite is an elegant and restful sanctuary and leads into a spacious ensuite bathroom with sweeping curves and wide-spanning windows. The designer has transformed the space into a dream bathroom with a new standalone bathtub and a large vanity area where the lady of the house can enjoy getting ready every day.
