Moving from a condo to an HDB for more space can look like a downgrade if profit is the only scorecard.

But not every family wants to maximise returns. Some want more space, a lower mortgage and a long-term home.

The conditions should still be clear.

Do not expect the move to make money. Put in as little cash as practical because cash committed to the home may be difficult to retrieve. For a long-term or forever home, CPF can form part of the plan.

The exchange is straightforward: more space and a lower mortgage, while accepting that the move may not generate a profit.
